Behind the Scenes: Marvel’s Echo Director Sydney Freeland on the Maya-Echo Father-Daughter Dynamic

In a recent promotional video for Marvel Entertainment, director Sydney Freeland talks about “Vincent D’Onofrio‘s performance, and this web series will explore how Wilson Fisk (King Pin) and his daughter bond.

This week, Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) is featured in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Spinning out of the Disney+ series Hawkeye, Echo is the first Marvel Studios production to receive the TV-MA rating and the first series under the new Marvel Spotlight banner.

Director Sydney Freeland Talk about the upcoming Marvel series “Echo”:

Marvel Entertainment released a promotional video for the Echo Series on YouTube. In this video, Marvel’s upcoming Echo series director Sydney Freeland talks about the upcoming Marvel studio’s Echo series. “Kingpin plays a huge role in this series, and with Vincent on board, he just raises the stakes. And also add “So much of Vincent’s performance was unscripted.” One of the great things that we get to explore is this father-daughter dynamic with Maya. The story is just so interesting, and I can’t look away.” Vincent D’Onofrio also talks about Wilson’s Fisk character: “Kingpin is a brutal, brutal character.”

Marvel’s upcoming new TV-MA rating series Echo is about Maya as she makes her way back to her native Choctaw Nation in Oklahoma while being pursued by the criminal empire of kingpin Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio). In this gritty, realistic drama with shades of Marvel’s Daredevil, Marvel’s Indigenous heroine, played by Zahn McClarnon, finds her way back to her origins following the death of her father, William Lopez.

Echo is streaming where?

Hulu and Disney+ are the only places where you can stream Echo. You must have an active membership to Disney+ or Hulu and have set your profile to enable the TV-MA content rating in order to watch. (TV-MA will be the default setting for primary Disney+ profiles and profiles linked to a date of birth of 18 or older; mature content will be automatically concealed from kids’ profiles.)
