Shruti Haasan on the sobriety journey: ‘I was never into drugs, but alcohol was a big thing’

Salaar: Part 1: Star of Ceasefire film actress Shruti Haasan recently talked about her eight years of sobriety and the reasons for her decision to give up alcohol.

Shruti Haasan, an actor and singer, is having a fantastic year so far in 2023. She appeared in a cameo in the highly regarded hit movie Hi Nanna, played important roles in two successful Telugu films, Veera Simha Reddy and Waltair Veerayya, and recorded her third solo single, “Monster Machine.” Shruti will now appear in Prashanth Neel’s Salaar: Part 1-Ceasefire, starring Prabhas, which is slated to premiere on December 22. This will round off the year on a high note.

Shruti Haasan talks about her sobriety journey:

In the meantime, Shruti recently talked about her path to recovery and the reasons for her decision to stop drinking. In a conversation with Untriggered, Aminjaz was questioned about how often she goes out to parties. In response, Shruti remarked, “I used to. But it’s been eight years since I became sober. So, when you’re not drinking, it might be difficult to put up with people at parties.

“I have zero regrets, zero hangovers, and it’s just been the best to be sober for me,” she mentioned while stressing that she doesn’t judge anyone for drinking. “It might be a phase, or you might like doing it for the rest of your life; that’s chill.”

“I was never into drugs, but alcohol was a big thing in my life. [After a point] It just didn’t serve me at all anymore, in any positive way… I was [always] hungover, and I always wanted to drink with my friends… So, I felt like it was more in control of me,” she noted, adding that cigarettes are the worst.

Shruti also revealed that she made the decision to cut ties with a number of people, particularly freeloaders, who made her drinking habits worse by constantly suggesting going out to parties. “This is also an aspect of maintaining sobriety,” she explained.

Shruti, the actress’s daughter, made her screen debut as the singer of the song “Potri Paadadi Ponne,” written by Ilaiyaraaja for Bharathan’s Thevar Magan, which starred her father in the title role. Kamal Haasan and Sarika are renowned performers. She made her screen debut in Kamal’s Hey Ram.
