Sean Gunn Cast as Maxwell Lord in Brother James Gunn’s DC Universe

Marvel Guardians of Galaxy actor Sean Gunn cast as Maxwell Lord, the ruthless tycoon, in the upcoming DC Universe, directed by his brother James Gunn and producer Peter Safran. This is a departure from Pedro Pascal‘s interpretation of the character in the 2020 film Wonder Woman 1984.

While it is unknown whether Sean Gunn cast as Maxwell Lord will appear in James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy, Deadline reports that the character will be mentioned in the background of Legacy and will play a larger part in future DC films. This technique looks to be a recurring theme for several characters in the initial phase of the new DC Universe, dubbed Gods and Monsters: Chapter One.

Maxwell Lord, who first appeared in 1987’s Justice League #1, was presented as an ally of the Justice League and was instrumental in the founding of Justice League International. His persona, however, turned into a dangerous foe for the Justice League and Wonder Woman. During the Invasion crossover, a gene bomb erupted, unleashing Lord’s dormant metagene and enabling him the ability to manipulate minds, albeit with limitations.

Sean, best known for his role as Kraglin in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, has worked on several projects with James, including The Suicide Squad and the film Super. On television, he has appeared in The Good Doctor, A Terminal List, The Rookie, Robot Chicken, and Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. Gunn’s cooperation with James Gunn goes beyond acting; he co-created the PG Porn series with James and Brian Gunn and acted in The Belko Experiment, a film scripted by James Gunn.
