Jason Momoa, Aquaman’s leading actor, aims for ideal role as Lobo in the DC Universe

Jason Momoa is considering a possible new role in the DC Universe when he finishes off as Aquaman. Given that there are no plans for a “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” sequel, it appears that this next release may mark the end of the DCEU continuity. Momoa and co-star Patrick Wilson recently spoke with Fandango about the possibility of Momoa portraying Lobo, a role in which he has previously expressed interest.

Jason Momoa’s aim for an ideal role as Lobo in the DC Universe:

Momoa revealed that when he was approached for Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, he first thought he was trying out for the part of Lobo. He remembered being apprehensive about trying out for Batman, but he still did it, thinking he would be chosen as the villain. But when he found out he was indeed being considered for Aquaman, his hopes were shattered. “I was just like, ‘Well, do you know who you’re going to play?'” when I received the call at work. I say, “Yes, Lobo!” Of course.

The only person capable of taking on Superman and Batman is him. “What?” was how [director Zack Snyder] felt. Lobo? No, he’s not a part of this reality. “What?” is how I feel. Who in the world am I meant to portray? Then he says, “Aquaman,” and I’m like, [disappointed look], wishing he had filmed it.” Momoa gave an explanation.

Momoa was first disappointed by the Aquaman idea, but he eventually came to like the character, especially the aspects of renegade and wanderer that he had. Despite the enormous popularity of the movie, Momoa couldn’t get over his ambition to play Lobo. He said, expressing his love for the role, “So Lobo was… Although I no longer collect comic books as much, he was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo because I was like, “Hello?” It’s the ideal position.”

Momoa stated that he’s all in if the chance to play Lobo comes, even if he hasn’t heard anything about it yet. “I haven’t received that call, so I don’t want to put any fake news out there, but if they ever call me and ask me to play or ask me to audition, I’m there.” On December 22, 2023, Momoa will make what may be his last appearance as Aquaman when “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” opens in theaters.
