According to The Times: “According to experts at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, the home was only affordable in 1990 for the top 1% of Chicago household earnings, and that would still be the case now. For example, a household making $305,000 in 1990 (about $665,000 in 2022) could have afforded the residence.
That’s all, then. The North Shore of Chicago mansion would have required Peter (John Heard) and Kate McCallister (Catherine O’Hara) to make at least $305,000 a year in 1990 (about $665,000 in 2022). In 2022, Zillow assessed the house’s value at around $2.4 million.
